First Aid & Marine Life Injuries

First Aid & Marine Life Injuries

WHY TAKE THIS COURSE?

After supporting a teammate with basic life support, effective first aid is the next step in assisting with an accident.

Provided in partnership with Divers Alert Network (DAN) Europe, GUE is pleased to offer a combination course that includes both the First Aid and Hazardous Marine Life Injuries programs.

WHO IS IT FOR?

This course is available to divers and non-divers with a current DAN BLS/BLS-D or GUE-DAN BLS-D & O2 First Aid certification.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

The First Aid course provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to provide first aid to adults in non immediately life threatening situations, or after having provided BLS in life threatening situations. First aid consists of several techniques that can determine the type of injury or illness, relieve pain, and stop injury from worsening.

The Marine Life Injuries course teaches first aid techniques for a suspected hazardous marine life injury in addition to introducing divers to the identification of potentially hazardous marine life and how to avoid being injured by it.

Applicants for a GUE-DAN First Aid & Marine Life Injuries program must:

  • Be physically and mentally fit.
  • Be a non-smoker.
  • Possess a current DAN BLS/BLS-D or GUE-DAN BLS-D & O2 First Aid certification, or equivalent.
This course is normally conducted over 1.5 days and includes classroom and hands-on training.

ADVANCED O2 FIRST AID & NEURO

Certified O2 providers can undertake advanced training to learn how to use a positive pressure valve and/or a bag valve mask (BVM), as well as conduct on-site neurological assessments.

RESCUE PRIMER

Scuba diving is a safe outdoor activity with low accident rates, but as with all activities, participants should be prepared to handle emergencies and perform rescues to assist team members. GUE’s Rescue Primer is a course designed to teach divers basic rescue techniques relevant to scuba diving emergencies.
