Advanced Oxygen First Aid & Neuro

Advanced Oxygen First Aid & Neuro

WHY TAKE THIS COURSE?

Being able to provide your teammates with interim care while awaiting emergency service support can make all the difference when a diving accident occurs.

Provided in partnership with Divers Alert Network (DAN) Europe, GUE is pleased to offer a combination course that includes both the Advanced Oxygen First Aid for Scuba Diving Injuries and On-Site Neurological Assessment for Divers programs.

WHO IS IT FOR?

This course is available to divers and non-divers with a current DAN Oxygen Provider or GUE-DAN BLS-D & Oxygen First Aid certification.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

The Advanced Oxygen First Aid course is designed to teach the skills and knowledge needed to supplement BLS and CPR skills with resuscitation techniques to assist any diver who is not breathing. The course is divided into two parts: use of the manual triggered ventilator (MTV), also known as resuscitation valve, and the use of the bag valve mask (BVM). In accordance with local laws and regulations, providers will be trained in the use of the MTV only, or in the use of both MTV and BVM.

The On-Site Neurological Assessment program provides students with a refresher on the warning signs of a dive emergency, knowledge on how to identify when it is appropriate to conduct an on-site neurological assessment, and how to conduct the assessment.

Applicants for a GUE-DAN Advanced Oxygen First Aid & Neuro program must:

  • Be physically and mentally fit.
  • Be a non-smoker.
  • Possess a current DAN Oxygen Provider or GUE-DAN BLS-D & O2 First Aid certification, or equivalent.
This course is normally conducted over one day and includes classroom and hands-on training.

RESCUE PRIMER

Scuba diving is a safe outdoor activity with low accident rates, but as with all activities, participants should be prepared to handle emergencies and perform rescues to assist team members. GUE’s Rescue Primer is a course designed to teach divers basic rescue techniques relevant to scuba diving emergencies.
