GUE Featured Affiliates

GUE Affiliates form a significant and growing role in GUE's broad-based conservation efforts. These groups are engaged in ongoing research, exploration or conservation activities; these efforts ultimately support GUE's broad global mission, encouraging local conservation programs and supporting the expansion of local activism. Woodville Karst Plain Project (WKPP) – This non-profit organization is GUE’s oldest and best-known project. WKPP principles include many of GUE’s founding partners, resulting in a long and extremely productive collaboration. GUE VP/ Science Director organizes and supports the vast majority of the research projects conducted by the WKPP. Meanwhile, GUE diver training programs are an indispensible part of WKPP diving operations. This fruitful relationship has resulted in some of the most elaborate dives ever conducted and supports a wide-ranging conservation program designed to protect our planets fresh water supply. Ocean Discovery – This non-profit organization was established by one of GUE’s early founders and remains a prominent supporter of GUE’s long standing interest in the preservation of our most cherished cultural resources. Ocean Discovery’s founding members have invested nearly two decades exploring the wrecks of the Baltic Sea. Numerous long standing collaborations with local governments and museums support public outreach and preservation of precious cultural resources. GUE training, resource support and expertise are critical aspects of the Ocean Discovery organization and support the ability of volunteers to positively affect the preservation of their cultural resources.


Mexico Cave Exploration Project (MCEP) – The non-profit MCEP has invested more than a decade exploring the three longest caves in the world. This GUE team of divers is widely regarded as some of the most capable cave explorers on the planet, investing countless hours to the exploration, documentation and conservation of the caves in Mexico. GUE training, resource support and expertise are critical aspects of the MCEP. GUE strives to support projects that engage the power of passionate advocates as a means to realize positive change. GUE fully expects the MCEP to have a significant and positive impact on local conservation and land use decisions over many years to come; a growing share of GUE resources are being directed to assist MCEP development as a regional agent for the preservation of our natural resources.


Bay Area Underwater Explorers (BAUE) - BAUE is a non-profit organization dedicated to the exploration and conservation of our planet's underwater resources. BAUE relies upon GUE training as a means to expand their safety and the effectiveness of their conservation goals. BAUE represents a growing expansion of GUE’s advocacy system – a system in which laypersons and experts mingle their expertise so as to expand the responsible use and conservation of our aquatic resources.


Australian Exploration Group (AEG) - The Australian Exploration Group is a GUE affiliate established to explore and document the unique diversity of the aquatic environment of Australasia. The AEG seeks to increase public awareness of sensitive aquatic resources while promoting conservation and research within these environments. GUE training, resource support and expertise are critical aspects of the AEG mission. The continued expansion of AEG capacity promises to develop their expanding importance in the promotion of positive land owner relations and effective conservation programs.


DIR Italia – The DIR Italia organization represents a sustained effort to support public education and expand GUE’s effectiveness within local communities. In order for GUE advocacy programs to gain traction they must be recognized as important to the long term best interest of a particular community. DIR Italia long standing support of GUE principles, training and conservation programs provides an idea platform for the continued development of GUE programs through Europe in general and within Italy in particular.


Rubicon Foundation - GUE collaborations with the Rubicon Foundation support the provision of a leading digital repository for Diving and Environmental Physiology Research. This ongoing resource promotes public education and informed decisions as well as expanding the tools available to educators and project leaders around the world.


Project Baseline encourages local dive groups to document ongoing environmental conditions in their favorite aquatic environments. Then, by regularly monitoring a location and publishing data including pictures and narrative logs through Google Earth, PB aims to raise public awareness of ecological deterioration to facilitate more detailed scientific inquiry and influence public policy.


GUE Working Partners – Most environmental problems require a wide range of resources; these problems are too significant for any one group to effect meaningful change. Collaboration with GUE affiliates and working partners as well as concerned citizens and fledging groups is an important aspect to support for the preservation of our aquatic environment.
